Every July the Blackfeet Nation gathers in Browning, Montana, for several days of tribal reunion. Activities include dance parades and contests, recognition of special accomplishments by tribe members, a relay horse race and other activities. Comprising one of the largest gatherings of United States and Canadian tribes, the celebration is an unforgettable experience. Once you hear and feel the mystery of the drum, see the traditional and fancy dancing, and the many proud Native people, then you begin to understand the Blackfeet Nation.
The regalia of the men, women and children is simply spectacular. Reflecting an incredible palate of color, texture and pattern, the regalia proudly display the extraordinary artistic traditions of this tribe. And the speeches call to mind the great history and traditions of the past as well as the triumphs and challenges of today. Blackfeet military veterans are prominent in leadership roles and recognition, aligning with the fact that Native Americans have always volunteered and served in numbers well above the average for all Americans.
