We owned a house on Lake Blue Ridge in North Georgia for two decades and thoroughly enjoyed summers on the lake with family and friends.

The Blue Ridge Kiwanis sponsors a Rodeo every August and for two years I went with my camera to try and capture the action. It was a challenge given the poor light available at dusk and night and the fast action, but also a lot of fun. It’s also quite a treat for the families in and around Fannin County, with amusements and food stalls before and during the Rodeo. I was able to position myself at the rail that forms the boundary of the arena and worked for the best angles as the evening unfolded. I was totally impressed with the skill and courage shown by the young men and women in these contests with animals and each other. Overall, it was a glimpse of an earlier time in small town America, a genuine treat in today’s impersonal and fast paces world.
