It was a very interesting trip, given the cultural history of China and that country's importance to America, both politically and economically. China has leaped forward over the past two decades and is completely westernized in many ways. The Chinese people are energetic and, I think, encouraged by the economic progress and the better life. Most of the Culutral Revolution has faded away, but the Communist government maintains a tight grip on security and communication.
China is a vast country with a fascinating history. It is difficult to access the historical culture in a tour of the major cities, but you can gain a sense of the traditional culture with effort.
We were handicapped in photographic opportunities by a lot of rain and fog, and severe pollution at times, but we had a great experience nonetheless. We had the best tour guide in my two decades of group travel, William Zhuang, who worked tirelessly to take care of our needs.
I hope you enjoy the slideshow. It's longer than usual, but we covered a lot of ground in nineteen days.
Take care,
George
