Ephemeral Beauty

The vast majority of my photographic work is focused on people.  I am inspired by the challenge of capturing people and their essence with my camera, which requires skill in connecting with strangers and luck in getting the right background and light into the frame.

However, given the many exotic locations I have visited in pursuit of interesting people, tribes and societies, I do have the opportunity to capture remarkable landscapes images.  This gallery is an effort to showcase a small group of such images.

Sometimes I have had a great deal of time to compose the image and adjust settings.  Other times I had just a few seconds to capture the image.  The lead photograph of the traditional junk sailing into Hong Kong Harbor was captured by seeing the junk departing its berth as I was arriving on the quay, running to get ahead of the boat and snapping off a few frames before it turned away.

The world has many iconic locations and settings and I have had the privilege of capturing a few.
