One of my pleasures in life is bird hunting. And one of the great bird hunting experiences in the world is South Georgia quail hunting. My great friend, Ed Hales, arranged for me to be invited to Gillionville for a couple of days hunting and socializing for several years. I took my camera on one of those trips and captured some of the sights and activity. It is such a terrific experience to be part of a traditional hunt with great dogs and guides, watching the dogs work and come to a point, and to test your skill at downing the burst of quail from the brush. God has provided quail with such incredible natural camouflage that the birds are virtually invisible even when you are standing five feet from them and looking directly at them. And part of the experience at Gillionville is the beautiful house, the lovely hostess, the scrumptious food and drink, the fellowship of other hunters, and, of course, the communion with nature. It is a wonderful part of traditional Southern life.
