My father served as a Naval Officer in the South Pacific during World War II.  After training he was stationed in Hawaii, the Gilbert Islands, the Marshall Islands and the Marianna Islands.  He was not a photographer, but he had a friend who was and gave him a large box of black and white photos and a small collection of color slides.  I’ve selected a few of them to give a feel for a sense of place, the natives of the islands and the military of both sides.  The music for the slideshow is from "Victory at Sea", a 26 episode television documentary broadcast in the early 1950's, composed by Richard Rogers.
