The Light Within
Since the days of cavemen, humans have created vehicles for spirituality. It started with what we call animism, a faith of gods constructed around nature, belief in a supernatural power that organizes and animates the material universe. Later faiths were created around a messianic personality, such as Jesus, Mohammed, Buddha, Confucius or a tribal set of beliefs and doctrines, such as Judaism and other similar constructs.
Through my travels I have been exposed to most of these faiths and the role they play in daily life around the globe. Most of the time faiths help humans find moral and ethical standards. Sometimes faith is subverted to political purposes and cruelty has been wrought by extremists.
What impressed me is that the vast majority of humans hunger for spirituality and make it a central part of life. It is part of a search for meaning and guidance in life and a fundamental belief there is a higher power beyond flawed humans.
Spirituality often brings forth the best in human nature, the most admirable version of ourselves.
